Belgian mayor blocks Leuven from hosting Israeli club in Europa League

The mayor of Leuven refused to allow Union Saint-Gilloise to host Hapoel Beer-Sheva on October 22, citing public safety concerns even if the stadium were empty. Union had sought to play all four home games in Leuven because its Brussels stadium does not meet UEFA standards for European competitions. UEFA said Tuesday it had been informed and that Union must find an alternative venue.
