Édouard Balladur, French prime minister under Mitterrand, dies at 97

Édouard Balladur, the conservative politician who served as France's prime minister from 1993 to 1995 under President François Mitterrand, has died at age 97 in Paris. Born in Izmir, Turkey, in a banking family of Armenian descent, Balladur moved to France as a child and studied law in Paris before beginning his political career in the 1960s.
