Bessent signals Japan will act to strengthen yen, hints at BOJ rate rise
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Japan's government and central bank are poised to take steps that will strengthen the yen, suggesting an interest rate increase is likely at the Bank of Japan's September meeting. The yen rose against the dollar after his comments, with the currency climbing to 159.68 per dollar from a 0.23 per cent decline.
