ChatGPT becomes first AI chatbot to face tougher EU rules

The European Union designated ChatGPT as a very large digital service on August 31, making it the first AI chatbot subject to tougher rules under the Digital Services Act. Reddit and Roblox received the same designation, all three having four months to comply with obligations including assessing systemic risks related to illegal content, effects on minors, and impacts on fundamental rights and electoral processes.
