Hundreds dead in Nepal floods as rescuers search for thousands missing

Sudden floods that struck Nepal this week killed hundreds, with around 3,000 still missing in the border region with China. Residents in areas like Roshuki Bazar gathered on higher ground as river levels rose. The floods were caused by sudden glacial ice collapse from high mountains during clear weather, a phenomenon known as "blue sky floods" that existing early warning systems are not designed to detect.
