Russia to close Goethe-Institut branches after Germany shuts Russian cultural centre
Moscow will close all three branches of Germany's Goethe-Institut in response to Berlin's decision to shut the Russian House of Culture following a drone incident at Leipzig Airport on August 4. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the move means the end of Germany's cultural presence in Russia. Germany also plans to close Russia's consulate in Bonn and pursue tougher sanctions and stricter entry controls.
