Ireland's first female boxing champion writes to retiring Taylor after 30 years
Deirdre Gogarty, who claimed Ireland's first female world boxing title in 1997, has written a letter to Katie Taylor ahead of Taylor's retirement fight on Saturday at Croke Park in Dublin. Taylor wrote to Gogarty in 1996 as a young boxer, expressing doubt that women's boxing would take off in Ireland, but went on to win Olympic gold in 2012 and help transform the sport globally.
