Ukrainian officials said the attacks represent Russian terror directed at NATO and the European Union, as multiple border crossings through which military and humanitarian aid flows came under fire.

5 h agoAlexei Likhachev, head of Russia's state nuclear energy corporation, said Ukrainian forces launched strikes on Friday against diesel fuel trucks supplying the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, killing two Russian servicemen and injuring others. The plant, Europe's largest with six reactors, relies on diesel generators to cool nuclear fuel when external power links are down.

6 h agoA passenger ship carrying 243 people lost contact in the Java Sea early on Sunday during bad weather. The Virgo Transport 8 had departed from Surabaya bound for Banjarmasin when it ran into the storm. Rescuers evacuated 103 people, one of whom died, and deployed teams, ships and a helicopter to search for the 140 still missing.

8 h agoOver 240 passengers were aboard the Virgo Transport 8 when it went silent Sunday while crossing the Java Sea between Surabaya and Banjarmasin. The vessel lost radio contact about 148 kilometers short of its destination, triggering a rescue operation. No casualties have been reported so far.

9 h agoThe MV Matui sank in rough seas on Friday while travelling between the islands of Santo and Ambae with more than 40 passengers and crew aboard. One person has been confirmed dead, 15 survivors accounted for, and more than 30 remain missing. Vanuatu's prime minister's office attributed the loss to strong winds, unheeded marine warnings and possible vessel overloading.
