Death toll from Himalayan glacial floods tops 1,000 as rescue teams search tunnels
The death toll from devastating glacial floods in Nepal and Tibet reached 1,003 on Tuesday, with nearly 4,500 people missing after a high-altitude glacial collapse sent a wave of water, rocks and debris downstream. Rescue teams are racing against time in treacherous conditions, with around 100 hydropower workers feared trapped in multiple tunnels; so far only bodies have been recovered from sludge-blocked passages.
