Congo reports more than 6,000 Ebola cases as outbreak spreads to new zones
Congo authorities reported more than 6,000 confirmed Ebola cases with 2,911 deaths and more than 1,360 recoveries. The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo virus with no approved vaccine or treatment, is spreading to new zones under difficult conditions. Congo began vaccinating health and front-line workers with the Ervebo vaccine, which was effective against past Zaire-type Ebola outbreaks.
