Federal judge voids New York's $75 billion climate superfund law

A federal judge in Syracuse ruled Monday that New York's 2024 law requiring fossil fuel companies to pay $75 billion over 25 years into a climate damage fund cannot be enforced. Chief US District Judge Brenda Sannes sided with 22 Republican state attorneys general and industry groups including the US Chamber of Commerce, finding the state law preempted by federal authority.
