Iceland votes to reject EU membership talks in close referendum
Icelanders voted against reopening membership negotiations with the European Union, with 52.8% of ballots cast opposing the government's proposal. Prime Minister Kristrun Frostadottir said Iceland would instead focus on strengthening its ties through the existing European Economic Area agreement.
