Iceland votes to reject European Union membership talks

Iceland's voters rejected reopening negotiations with the European Union in a referendum held Sunday, with 52% voting against restarting talks suspended over a decade ago. The result reversed pre-referendum expectations of a narrow majority in favour, and reflected public concern over issues including fishing policy.
