Anthropic opens biology lab for AI drug research

1 h agoThe presidents of UEFA and CONCACAF have written to FIFA president Gianni Infantino calling for a $10m payout from FIFA's $6bn reserves to each of the 211 member associations. The demand comes as the confederations challenge Infantino's private equity proposal and argue that FIFA has sufficient cash to fund its members directly.

The startup's head of life sciences said the lab conducts the kind of physical testing typical of biotech companies, working both in-house and with external partners.

4 h agoSecurity researchers from Hacktron used Anthropic's Claude to exploit vulnerabilities in OpenAI's systems, gaining access to employee accounts and an internal code repository. OpenAI patched the flaw within 14 hours of notification and awarded the researchers a $6,500 bounty.

4 h agoDuncan Sheik, the singer-songwriter who scored a pop hit with "Barely Breathing" in the mid-1990s before finding his greatest success with the Broadway musical "Spring Awakening," has died at 56. He died of organ failure after being hospitalized earlier this week. Sheik and his longtime collaborator Steven Sater won Tony Awards and a Grammy for the 2006 rock musical.

Three trade unions representing more than 1,600 workers across 17 stores demanded additional hiring, permanent contracts for fixed-term staff, and extended hours for part-time employees.

6 h agoSpanish riot police fired rubber bullets and used batons on Friday as they began clearing thousands of migrants from beaches in the North African enclave of Ceuta. Several thousand migrants remain in the Spanish territory after tens of thousands crossed from Morocco in late July.

His son Howard Buffett, a director since 1993, succeeds him as chairman, following Greg Abel's earlier appointment as CEO.

8 h agoWarren Buffett has resigned as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, ending a tenure that began in 1965. His son Howard G. Buffett will assume the chairmanship, while Buffett remains a shareholder and board member.
