Iranian ship struck in Hormuz as Iran, Oman agree on new routes

1 h agoAn Iranian commercial container vessel was hit by an unidentified projectile near Hengam Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, killing one person and injuring three. Iran and Oman have agreed on new entry and exit routes for the waterway, with the entry point lying entirely within Iranian territorial waters. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the agreement would not mean a reopening of the strait.

3 h agoTom Tiffany and his pilot lost power in their aircraft while approaching Wausau Downtown Airport and made an emergency water landing on Lake Wausau in central Wisconsin. Both swam to safety as the plane submerged and were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Tiffany is the Republican nominee for Wisconsin governor.

5 h agoU.S. President Donald Trump on September 13 called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to halt attacks on Russia's diesel fuel infrastructure, saying the strikes were contributing to a global diesel shortage. Trump's own war against Iran has knocked out more than 20% of Middle Eastern refining capacity and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, which previously carried roughly a fifth of global oil supplies.

Ukrainian officials said the attacks represent Russian terror directed at NATO and the European Union, as multiple border crossings through which military and humanitarian aid flows came under fire.

11 h agoAn inter-island ferry sank in bad weather off the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu, leaving one dead and more than 30 missing. Rescue operations were continuing as an investigation began into negligence by the vessel's operator.
