Syria begins destroying chemical weapons from Assad era

Syria has started destroying remnants of a clandestine chemical weapons programme discovered in May, marking the first such operation in the country in more than a decade. An OPAQ team verified the irreversible destruction of 42 aerial bombs during a mission last month, according to UN disarmament official Izumi Nakamitsu.
